Title: Diet and cholesterol; a review of the current evidence
Authors: Kennedy, Emma
Abstract: Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in Ireland
and it remains the leading cause of premature death worldwide.
It accounts for one third of all deaths in Ireland and this translates
as 10,000 deaths per year.1 The World Health Organisation
(WHO) has stated that over three quarters of all CVD mortality may
be prevented with adequate changes in lifestyle.2 In those who are
at high risk of CVD, a focus on reducing risk factors is advisable.
